Kreeke

Ein weiterer Vertreter aus der Gruppe der Primitivpflaumen ist die Kreeke. Kreeken blühen meistens Ende April/Anfang Mai mit einer weißen, einfachen Blüte. Aus ihr entwickelt sich bis zum Spätsommer eine zumeist gelblich-rote, etwas längliche Frucht, die eine Größe von ca. 3 cm und einen spitz zulaufenden Kern besitzt. Die Früchte werden häufig zum Brennen von Schnäpsen und Likören verwendet.

Die Kreeke ist raschwüchsig, robust und wird in der Regel 3 bis 4 m hoch. Sie besitzt frischgrüne Blätter, die in ihrer Gestalt an eine Kreuzung aus Wildpflaume und Schlehe erinnern. Die Kreeke ist ein sehr robustes Gehölz und es werden keine besonderen Ansprüche an den Boden gestellt. Für den naturnahen Garten ist die Kreeke ein wertvolles Vogel- und Insektennährgehölz.
